Socially useful works are a form of support addressed to the unemployed not eligible to receive a benefit, using social welfare benefits or participating in a social contract, individual independent living programme, local social welfare programme or individual social employment programme. The works are carried out without employment relationship or a contract of employment. They are organised by the commune in the social welfare organisational units, organisations or institutions with the chartered charity activities or activities for the local community. The socially useful works are performed based on an understanding by and between the starost and the commune which the socially useful works are performed for. The starost reimburses the funds up to the 60% of the money offered to an unemployed to the commune under the Labour Fund. The benefit can be funded from the commune budget in whole.
